Mid-week Getaway: Holiday at Uran

Drove down to Uran for a two-day staycation break at Hotel Uran Plaza.

The last 100-yard access is through a rainwater channel that transports you to another world. It’s like rumbling through a jungle track:

The hotel is a cozy little retreat in the middle of nowhere.
Picnic lunch tables in the middle of a pine grove. A coconut plantation and a narrow sandbed beach for walkarounds.

Admrl John Pereira (Retd.) who runs the hotel, regaled us with tales of Vijay Mallya and his parties on an island across the bay. He happens to be cousin to the Late Admrl. Ronnie Pereira (Chief of Naval Staff, 1979-82).
Has a unique sailboat shaped residence on the property that lends to its charm. Thorough gentleman and sprightly as ever - ‘80 going on 18’ as his grandaughter puts it :)
